Celebrating Our Combined Cadet Force during National Cadets Week
Building Skills, Confidence, and Community Impact
At Walkden, we are extremely proud of our Combined Cadet Force (CCF). During National Cadets Week 2026 we have enjoyed sharing insights into the world of Cadets, highlighting what our Cadets take part in throughout the year alongside reflections from our Cadets and Cadet Leaders.
Serving Our Community
Throughout the year, our Cadets actively give back through vital local projects. From selling poppies and representing Walkden at the Parr Fold Park Remembrance Day Parade to standing proud in the Armed Forces Day parade, their commitment to service is unmatched.
As part of their Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, our Cadets also dedicate their free time to local volunteering. You will often spot them lending a helping hand at local care and dementia specialist homes or leading litter picks to keep our community clean and welcoming.

Passing on the Ropes & Real-World Life Skills
Our Cadets carry out dynamic activities every single day. This week, some of our long-standing Cadets have been taking the lead by teaching our newest recruits the ropes!
A cornerstone of the Cadet experience is First Aid training, ensuring young people are prepared for real-life scenarios step by step:
-
Basic Emergency Response: Learning how to assess potential emergency situations and call for help correctly.
-
Critical Interventions: Handling life-threatening emergencies, such as managing severe bleeding and choking.
-
Lifesaving Care: Gaining essential practical knowledge, including how to perform CPR.
Recognising our dedicated volunteers
Behind every expedition, away day, and achievement at Co-op Academy Walkden CCF is a dedicated team of volunteers who give their time, passion, and expertise to inspire our Cadets. Thanks to the hard work, qualifications, and dedication of this amazing team, Co-op Academy Walkden CCF can deliver an exceptionally exciting and action-packed programme for our pupils.
A Royal Tribute & Looking Ahead
We are thrilled to celebrate a special letter of praise from His Majesty The King addressed to all Cadets and volunteers! In his message, The King paid tribute to all five military Cadet Forces, as well as the National Fire Cadets, Volunteer Police Cadets, and St John Ambulance Cadets.

As our week of celebrations comes to a close, we are reflecting on the incredible impact of one of the UK’s largest youth movements and how proud we are to be a part of it. We hope all of our Cadets and pupils have seen the enriching opportunities, confidence, sense of pride, and strong community belonging that Walkden’s CCF provides.
Get Involved!
The skills and confidence gained in Cadets stay with you for life. If pupils are interested in signing up or just want to see what it is all about, pop along on a Tuesday afternoon or speak directly to a member of the Cadets Team!
