Welcome from our Principal, Mr Hacker

Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our first newsletter of the year, keeping you informed of all the activities in and out of school since the start of term. I want to extend a warm welcome to all the new Year 7 parents this September. I know that the transition to High School is not without its stresses as a parent, but I have to say what an exceptional start the Year 7's have made - they're settling in really well!
This year, we are on a mission to provide pupils with even better classroom experiences, through high-quality teaching and learning. Our strategy is centred on the 'Teach Like a Champion' methodology and teachers are receiving weekly training, focussed on laser sharp instruction, questioning and assessment. Subsequently, we want all pupils to make even better progress in all of their subjects.
Of course to benefit from high quality teaching, we need our pupils to be in school. Attendance and punctuality to school is crucial and to see the impact that attendance and lateness can have on lost learning time, please take a look at our Attendance section below. Please help us get the best from your child by sending them in every day and ensuring that they don't miss out.
We also want our pupils to have the very best opportunities outside of the classroom and we are further broadening our extra curricular offer this year, with some great trips and visits in the pipeline too!
Finally, a word about rewards and recognition. It is crucial that we identify, recognise and reward all the positive contributions our pupils make to our school community and this year, we have a whole new strategy, led by Assistant Principal, Mr Ward. Already, there have been 4200 merits awarded to pupils in class and almost 50 postcards home for great work or effort. We have a range of prize draws throughout the year as well as spot prizes for good attendance and attitudes to learning. Watch this space for more updates throughout the year.
We are really looking forward to this academic year and we have high hopes for all of our pupils. Between parents and school, it's really important that we work together for all their best interests, I think that this is a good message to be shared at both school and home as we go through this next year.
Best wishes for the year ahead.
Matt Hacker
